I’m back! Not quite Polyvore, but Fashmates is pretty much the exact same interface and concept. So here is my first Fashmates set. Tomorrow my work is having a funky Friday fundraiser, where we get to dress funky. But I am going out after work, so my funkiness needs to be toned down enough to be seen in public.
So i am wearing a number of items that are black with white stars, but most can be taken off so I can be a person who doesn’t get weird stares while in an Indian restaurant.
So here’s my first set inspired by tomorrow’s outfit!
I am not that fussy when it comes to styling my hair. It is so thin and soft and slippery that it rarely holds a style and takes way more effort than I want to do things with it.
That being said, I can’t stand my oily roots and dry ends gig. I have towash my hair nearly every day or the scalp is super oily. Any sweat around the hairline also ruins it, and the cow lick! These are my faves for keeping it simple and easy to work with.
In winter I like a mask for my hair to really nourish it as scarves, wind and dryness make it very brittle. Always choose a great Schwarzkopf
I’m not loyal to any shampoo brands, I like Tresemme and Dove. Anything with a pump is super easy in the shower.
I bought 3 of these brushes in 2014 from Forever 21
in Shanghai. Still going strong and under $4!
Batiste Dry Shampoo
is the absolute best. I don’t go anywhere without it. EVER. The travel sizes are perfecto!
The L’Oreal Casting Creme Gloss
semi permanent hair colour covers my greys for a while and gives my hair an all over shine. I use it every couple of months.
Here are my tried and true skin care products that I keep going back for. Some are new to the routine, others have been in circulation for years.
by Benefit – A cooling, smoothing primer that goes on great under make up, especially before going out at night
Nutrimetics Ultra Care
spf everyday lotion. This is my day moisturiser that I use year round. It has spf 50+ so its perfect under make up as sun protection, even on beach days.
MAC Prep and Prime
CC creme, perfect for redness relief as it’s colour correcting, hence the CC!
Natio Face Mist
– to relieve my angry red skin and to pop over make up so I look just dewy enough.
Swisspers Calming Green Tea Make Up Wipes
– To be honest I used Simple brand wipes for a decade, until a few years ago when they changed the texture of the wipe and I found it quite harsh on my sensitive skin. So Swisspers were the next best thing.
Go-To Skin Care Face Hero
– This is the best face oil around. A super mix of oils, replaced my love affair with just rosehip oil. So luxurious!
Along with these favourites, my skin care routines features a number of other serums, night and eye creams, maybe a scrub here or there. But these are the ones I use religiously.
Although there is a never ending parade of items that pass through my make up bag, these items are my winners, the coveted items that get a spot in there year round. Some of these items have been a favourite for years!
I love a few benefit concealer products, and have explored a few others (who me? dark circles ? rosacea?) but I keep coming back to Boi-ing. Industrial strength, never moving, thick coverage. I’m sold.
Benefit know brows, okay? I do love a bit of Gimme Brow
as well, but the Goof Proof pencil is super easy you get perfect brows every time.
A great translucent setting powder that goes on after foundation, blush and bronzer. I dust it on last in case my blush and brozer is a bit heavy.
A few years ago I upgraded to a ‘really expensive foundation’ after banging around for years with supermarket brands, and I love my MAC. Feel very grown up buying this.
I have about 30 lip balms in all my drawers and bags, but this is the best. So moisturising and with a bit of colour. If I’m lazy, this is all I use for the day.
So so good. Most weekdays I can get away with just wearing this, concealer and powder to work. Saves my MAC. This BB cream has excellent colour coverage and smells divine.
If I could only pick one lipstick out of my 50 or so, I would get my 2 Natio lip colours. Super moisturising, but not slippery that they slide off, and matte enough without being dry. My favourite shade is Flutter, a lovely nudey pink. I also have Playful, a warm orangey red.
So there you have, my desert island, smuggle me in prison, take on holidays Make Up Favourites!
What are yours?
I wore a navy dress on Monday with peachy pink shoes and a peach and navy fabric flower brooch. I bought the dress from Modcloth
and hadn’t worn it yet as I just didn’t love it. I sized up, but the dress came with plenty of stretch so I could have probably gone a size down. It also was quite big around the shoulder and chest area (a common problem for me; seeing as if I order size 16/18 or 2XX I am supposed to have a large rack…uh, no).
I finally decided I wanted to wear it to work as I was looking for something to wear with the bird print fabric brooch. I sighed as I got up and looked at the brooch, if only I had a plain navy dress to wear this with… hang on I do! (Occupational hazard of a female with over 80 dresses, you forget what you have!)
The dress looked cute with the brooch and shoes, as well as a peach bird print necklace – see below. But I was still not sure I loved my figure in the dress. Running out of time, I decided to go with it, it was only work anyway.
The dress was certainly comfy, a nice knee length and had pockets! So that made me feel better. Amazingly, I had 5 people compliment me on how I looked. It’s funny when you aren’t necessarily ‘feeling’ it but others ‘see’ it. And by ‘it’ – I mean that age old argument of look good, feel good, or is it feel good, look good? I certainly felt better about the dress after 5 compliments. I mean who wouldn’t?
Inspired by that look, I planned another outfit with the Modcloth dress, maybe this time with baby pink?
And cat accessories. Because cats always make things better.
It’s Autumn here in the Southern Hemisphere and my Birthday was last week. Here are some of my favourite things lately, either purchased or received as birthday gifts.
I got three scarves for my Birthday. I always get scarves as they are new out in the shops when my Birthday rolls around. This year I got a pretty paisley print silk scarf from my family that was bought in New Zealand, a red die-cut stole from Glamour Hanger from my future in-laws, and a berry snood from Factorie.
Nutrimetics had a gift with purchase this month of a smokey eye shadow palette and its just the best, the perfect mix of colours (I have so many palettes but this one is my new favourite). I also scored a Rimmel scandal eyes shadow stick in Bad Girl Bronze for $5.
I wear black flats a lot and recently decided to upgrade to a better quality pair. I got a pair from Target Australia in there comfort range, and then couldn’t go past these cute aqua flats.
Loving my gifted insulated drink bottle from EarthCo. Keeps cold water cold for about 4 hours! The website says 12 hours, but its not that cold after 4. Plus the bottle does not get cold or wet on the outside. I am obsessed with drinking cold water so I love this. Also love my new Typo and Kmart plastic reusable bottles.
I have been on the search for a new denim jacket for about six months and scored this light weight, soft fabric one from Rockmans for $40! When I was in there I also picked up this lovely purple front tie top and another blouse style top with a yellow to orange gradient.
