Winter Wardrobe Challenge: The Scarf-A-Thon

I have 70 scarves. YES, 70. Who could have known it would come to this amount? An Autumn Birthday helps, lots of scarf related gifts. A penchant for cheapies in Kmart, an obsession for bying scarf souvenirs when travelling the world. And generous and gifted family members who knit. This has lead me to own 70 scarves.

I recently cleaned them out and resorted them, counting as I went. It dawned on me that I needed a way to wear them more, more often, and more of them. So my winter wardrobe challenge was decided! The Scarf-a-thon.

The Scarf-a-thon – a pledge to wear a different scarf every day for at least 30 days (realistically I should be able to go for 70 days).

I tend to wear the same ones over and over again, and there are days when I can still not find a scarf to go with my outfit! Unbelievable. Anyway here are my first 12 scarf outfits!

Purple chiffon blouse with a purple and white patterned scarf. This scarf was a birthday gift earlier this year.

My maroon blazer with a apricot and grey scarf with swallows on it. Love this scarf. A birthday present from a few years ago.

A knitted multi-coloured scarf I got for my birthday over 15 years ago. Worn with a coral long sleeved top and a black puffy vest.

Reusing the black puffy vest again! This time with a star patterned top and star patterned scarf. This scarf was bought about 10 years ago, from Cotton on in a 3 for $10 deal. Woohoo!

Easy outfit, black jumper with a cream and black scarf. Not sure where I got this scarf from, possible birthday gift? Kmart buy?

Turquoise clothes and scarves were the theme for a 4 day trip to Melbourne. This hounds tooth one is from Target.

I have had this scarf for about 20 years, I rarely wear it. Knitted red, black and taupe. It’s a little short when wrapped around. Goes well with my red gloves though!

Another Melbourne outfit, this time a black, warm snood. So toasty. From H&M.

Another snood outfit, dark maroon, from Factorie. A birthday gift last year.

A beautiful homemade knitted scarf from my sister in law. This year’s birthday present. Great for the plane trip to  Melbourne!

Another of my 3 for $10 Cotton On scarves. A deep fuchsia and one I wear the most. This with a fuchsia top and my trusty black vest to visit lookouts in the Blue Mountains.

Love this hot pink and black number I bought in Bali last year. Worn with a pink and grey cardigan.

Stay tuned for Scarf-a-thon, Part 2!

Absolute Skin Care Favourites

Absolute Skin Care Favourites

Here are my tried and true skin care products that I keep going back for. Some are new to the routine, others have been in circulation for years.
That Gal by Benefit – A cooling, smoothing primer that goes on great under make up, especially before going out at night
Nutrimetics Ultra Care spf everyday lotion. This is my day moisturiser that I use year round. It has spf 50+ so its perfect under make up as sun protection, even on beach days.
MAC Prep and Prime CC creme, perfect for redness relief as it’s colour correcting, hence the CC!
Natio Face Mist – to relieve my angry red skin and to pop over make up so I look just dewy enough.
Billie Goat Soap Night Cream – I use a variety of night creams but this one is nice and thick for the cooler months.
Nutrimetics Botanicals Foaming Cleanser Toner – I probably have been using this for 20 years. I love them! So fruity, gentle and light. Perfect in the shower.
Swisspers Calming Green Tea Make Up Wipes – To be honest I used Simple brand wipes for a decade, until a few years ago when they changed the texture of the wipe and I found it quite harsh on my sensitive skin. So Swisspers were the next best thing.
Go-To Skin Care Face Hero – This is the best face oil around. A super mix of oils, replaced my love affair with just rosehip oil. So luxurious!
Simple Kind to Eyes Make Up Remover -Very gentle and thorough. Also comes in a great travel size.
Along with these favourites, my skin care routines features a number of other serums, night and eye creams, maybe a scrub here or there. But these are the ones I use religiously.

Absolute Make Up Favourites

Absolute Make Up Favourites

Although there is a never ending parade of items that pass through my make up bag, these items are my winners, the coveted items that get a spot in there year round. Some of these items have been a favourite for years!

I love a few benefit concealer products, and have explored a few others (who me? dark circles ? rosacea?) but I keep coming back to Boi-ing. Industrial strength, never moving, thick coverage. I’m sold.

Benefit know brows, okay? I do love a bit of Gimme Brow as well, but the Goof Proof pencil is super easy you get perfect brows every time.

A great translucent setting powder that goes on after foundation, blush and bronzer. I dust it on last in case my blush and brozer is a bit heavy.

A few years ago I upgraded to a ‘really expensive foundation’ after banging around for years with supermarket brands, and I love my MAC. Feel very grown up buying this.

I have about 30 lip balms in all my drawers and bags, but this is the best. So moisturising and with a bit of colour. If I’m lazy, this is all I use for the day.

So so good. Most weekdays I can get away with just wearing this, concealer and powder to work. Saves my MAC. This BB cream has excellent colour coverage and smells divine.

If I could only pick one lipstick out of my 50 or so, I would get my 2 Natio lip colours. Super moisturising, but not slippery that they slide off, and matte enough without being dry. My favourite shade is Flutter, a lovely nudey pink. I also have Playful, a warm orangey red.

So there you have, my desert island, smuggle me in prison, take on holidays Make Up Favourites!
